Sun Ssu-mo also goes by the name Su Simiao was born an extraordinary child. At a young age, he had already mastered the Chinese medical classics and by age 20 he became a well-known medical practitioner.Sun Simiao originated from the county of Yao in Shaanxi province was a famous physician during the Tang dynasty. He was also known as "The Herbal King" in his later stage of life. He dedicated much of his time and effort on the virtue of medicine and his famous saying was that "Human life is worth a thousand gold bars with a virtue of one prescription you can fix it". In 652 he compiled the famous "Qian Jin Yao Fang" which tally up to 30 scrolls". He also compose "Qian Jin Yi Fang" with also tally up to 30 scrolls. In his book, he sums up that the virtue of medicine works its best when one fully understand the Obstetrics and Gynecology of how the human body works. He is well known for his answer in treating goiter by simply recommending seaweed to people living in the mountain regions and the inner desert where intake of iodine and salt is rare. Many of them who suffer from night blindness were asked to eat ox and sheep liver to overcome the disease.
Besides being a Chinese Physician,
he was also a Taoist alchemist often helping the villagers to rid of bad
spells and providing herbal formulas and toxic
alchemical preparations.
